Kauai Rental Apartments

Most of what appears to be apartments on Kauai are actually individually-owned condominiums, some of which are owner-occupied and others which are rented out.  There are a few exceptions however and here are those I'm aware of.

Buy Instead of Renting--an idea that may work for you

You may wish to consider buying instead of renting if your Hawaii housing needs are long term. Did you know that in Hawaii, long term rents are taxed at 4% just like milk & bread, and all other goods & services?  This  fact is sometimes obscured when the tax is hidden within the rental amount instead of being broken out separately.  If it's a short term rental, this tax leaps to over 13%!  In contrast, mortgage payments are not taxed and usually provides a healthy tax deduction instead.
